At Iguazu Falls, there’s so much more to do than simply wandering walkways and admiring the waterfalls. Other activities allow you to experience the falls in different ways and from new perspectives, with many even getting your adrenaline pumping. If you want to enjoy Iguazu’s beauty without simply looking, here are some things you can do:

Kayaking: Though you’ll be kayaking up the river and not near the falls, a kayak trip is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the nature of the Iguazu area. It’s quite peaceful, as you get to kayak along a huge river with very few (if any) other tourists around, and you’ll enjoy fantastic views of both Brazil and Argentina’s riverbanks on either side.

Jet Boating: Adrenaline junkies, this activity is for you! Not for the faint of heart, the thrilling Macuco jet boat rides speed right through the rapids, spinning in circles, making sharp turns, and even heading straight into the falls themselves for a drenching “shower.” You’ll get soaked, so you’ll want to put valuables in a plastic bag and may even want to bring a change of clothes. But these jet boat rides are the perfect way to truly feel the incredible power of the falls, as you’ll feel how heavy the water pours down on top of you.

Rock Climbing & Rappelling: Two more activities that will get your heart racing, rock climbing and rappelling are great ways to embrace the adventure side of Brazil while also enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Rappelling takes more guts, as you literally have to step off a platform and lower yourself down a rope along the cliff face to the ground below, but both rock climbing and rappelling reward you with fabulous views of the falls.

Biking: For biking enthusiasts who want to experience the forests surrounding the falls, mountain biking is great option. You’ll cruise along paths through lush tropical forests and get up close encounters with all the flora and fauna. It’s a great way to get off the beaten track without having to deal with crowds surrounding the falls.

White-Water Rafting: The most popular rafting experience in Iguazu is the Macuco Safari, which begins with an electric wagon tour of the forest, where a guide points out plants and animals and provides interesting facts about the park. Once you arrive at the river, you’ll hop into rafts for an exhilarating ride down the white-water rapids, ending a few kilometers down the river where a driver will pick you up.

Helicopter Flight: If you have a bit of cash to spend, a helicopter ride provides an amazing bird’s-eye view of the waterfalls and too many unbelievable photo opportunities to count. This is the best way to see all 275 waterfalls at once and really appreciate Iguazu’s majesty, as your pilot will circle around to give you views from every angle. Though it’s expensive, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that’s worth every penny.
